Shepherd Works is a dietitian practice, which specialises in adult and paediatric
(over 3 years of age) patients who have the following gastro-intestinal conditions:
- Coeliac Disease
- Fructose Malabsorption
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Lactose Intolerance
- Crohn’s Disease
- Ulcerative Colitis
- Others upon request
ABOUT THE PRACTICE:
The team includes six Accredited Practising Dietitians, all up-to-date with the latest information for teaching such specialised information. Please refer to dietitian profiles below.
Group information sessions are available with Sue Shepherd for people with newly diagnosed coeliac disease, fructose malabsorption or lactose intolerance.
Individual consultations are available with Heidi Davies, Marnie Nitschke, Janeane Dart, Kim Canale, Kim Menzies, Emma Halmos and Michelle McPhee for any gastrointestinal nutrition appointment.
Information days for country areas, doctor training and other activities are available from Shepherd Works Pty Ltd.
A doctor’s referral is not essential, however if you have one, please bring it with you to the appointment. Please also bring with you results of any tests and investigations you may have had regarding your condition. Please note, our practice specialises in food intolerances, and the conditions listed above. We do not specialise in patients with food allergies.

The practice works from three locations:
The main rooms are located in the private consulting suite of the Department of Gastroenterology of Box Hill Hospital: Level 8 Clive Ward Centre, 16 Arnold Street Box Hill Vic 3128.
We also have consulting rooms in Kew and Bundoora.
Daytime and early evening appointments are available weekdays.

To book for an appointment by phone or for other queries please phone (03)9895 0319 between 9am and 4pm Monday to Thursday, or fax (03)9895 0352. You will be sent an appointment package, with directions of where to go to attend the appointment, food diary and patient information questionnaire.
Do allow time for finding a carpark when attending your appointment as spaces are often limited during the day and whilst construction works continue around the hospital.
DIETITIAN PROFILES:
SUE SHEPHERD
Sue Shepherd is an Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian with ten years' experience, who graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Health Promotion and post graduate Masters in Nutrition and Dietetics. She has recently won the Dietitians Association of Australia Annual Award for Achievement for outstanding contribution to the profession, and Douglas Piper Young Investigator Award from the Gastroenterological Society of Australia. She has Coeliac Disease, and has extensive knowledge of gluten-free and fructose-friendly food and nutrition. She is in the final phase of her PhD research in aspects of fructose malabsorption, coeliac disease and irritable bowel syndrome.
JANEANE DART
Janeane is an Accredited Practising Dietitian with twelve years’ experience in clinical dietetics. She graduated with a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics in 1995. She has worked in the department of Gastroenterology at St Mark's Hospital in the UK for many years, and has recently returned to Australia to continue to work in her area of expertise - gastrointestinal nutrition. Janeane works from Kew and Box Hill locations.
MARNIE NITSCHKE
Marnie is an Accredited Practising Dietitian with eight years’ experience in clinical dietetics, having worked in the department of Gastroenterology at leading Melbourne Hospitals. She is an active member of the Dietitian's Association of Australia Gastroenterology Interest Group. She graduated in 1999 with a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and has a real passion for great bowels and good health. Marnie works from our Bundoora practice.
HEIDI STAUDACHER
Heidi has had extensive clinical dietetic experience in both Australia and the UK, and offers a great breadth of knowledge in her consultations. She graduated
with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Movement (Hons) and has her
Masters in Nutrition and Dietetics. Heidi works from our Box Hill practice.
KIM CANALE
Kim graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) and post graduate Masters in Nutrition and Dietetics. She been with the team at Shepherd Works for more than five years at our Box Hill practice, and has extensive experience in gastrointestinal nutrition in both private practice and research.
KIM MENZIES
Kim graduated with a Bachelor of Education and post graduate Masters in Heatlh Science and Nutrition and Dietetics. Kim's 7 years of teaching home economics has provided Kim with immense food knowledge. Her experience as a dietitian has been both hospital-based and in the specialty area of gastrointestinal nutrtion. Kim works from our Box Hill practice.
EMMA HALMOS
Emma is an Accredited Practising dietitian with many years' experience in dietetics, and is currently undertaking her Master's degree looking at FODMAPs in the diets of patients in hospital. Emma has graduated with a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics.
MICHELLE McPHEE
Michelle has worked for many years in the hospital setting, and has recently joined the team at Shepherd Works. Michelle graduated with a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics from Deakin University and contributes great professional experience to the team and her clients.
